Our Clients – Our Passion

Who They Are
Cornerstone's clients represent a broad spectrum
– retail stores, job shops, service professionals, start-up entrepreneurs and others.
They
share one thing in common: They view their businesses
as investments and know they are worth working
ON
as opposed to just working
IN.
For each, business development began by
realizing there is a better way to run their
business and that they could get their faster with the help of a
business development professional.
Here are some of their stories.
If business development consulting sounds like something that
would help you, these clients are delighted to speak with
you about their experiences with Cornerstone.
What They're Saying
D.
J. Simmons is a Farmington, NM-headquartered oil and gas exploration company
that also owns Twin Stars, Ltd -- a natural gas compressor sales and service
company. Both companies are in rapid growth modes and are recognized
regional leaders in their fields.
John Byrom, D. J. Simmons President and CEO, retained Cornerstone in
December 2006 to help his company's oil and gas exploration division source
and implement a performance management system as a next step in their
efforts of obtaining Roadrunner Certification -- the intermediate level of
Malcolm Baldridge certification through Quality New Mexico. Like
Cornerstone, John and his team believe that business process quality is an
important indicator of long-term success and is worthy of investment.
As a start to that work, Cornerstone is assisting John and his team with the
refinement of their already well-developed strategic planning processes and
plan. Cornerstone conducted a comprehensive survey of the company's
directors and key managers which served as input for the plan's development
and backdrop for the company's 1.5 day strategic planning retreat which was
facilitated by Cornerstone. The work and retreat narrowed the
company's focus to those initiatives that matter most as the company defined
what matters most. Now using the survey and retreat's findings,
existing management accountability tools and with the addition of some
refinements, strategic planning is sharper than it has ever been and D. J.
Simmons is poised to source and implement a performance management system
that will help a great company and team become even more successful.
Subsequent assignments consisted of project management oversight on the
implementation of major project maintenance system including documentation
of business processes and selection of outside vendors and the
implementation of a robust set of digital data dashboards. More about
digital data dashboards can be found by

Tim Montoya is the owner of Aztec Machine & Repair, a leading Four Corners
hydraulic repair and machine shop. In business a little over six
years, his rapidly growing company now employs over 15 craftsmen.
The company is transitioning to a more structured and
formalized business model. This transition requires implementing
measures for rewarding team
productivity, job-by-job profitability, market share and cash flow.
In January 2004, Aztec Machine was named the Small Business Development
Center Client of the Year and was recognized in Santa Fe on the floor of the
Capital. The company was also nominated for an EDGE award by the San Juan
County Economic Development Service in 2003, 2004 and 2007 and was named the
County's award winner in 2007.
With these measurements now in place or under development, the company and
Cornerstone are developing and implementing new operating procedures that
systemize the business and increase profitability.
In addition to working with Tim in developing an activity based cash flow
model, Cornerstone assisted the company in obtaining a major round of financing
and and now a second. In September and October 2004 Cornerstone completed a
comprehensive customer satisfaction survey that furnished Tim with great
insights into how to further shape the direction of the company. Next
on the list is the process of developing formal organizational structure and
job descriptions.
Tim is learning first hand how valuable it is to become a full-time manager
and leader. He is intentionally freeing up his time by training and
delegating tasks to his foreman and skilled craftsmen. With his new freedom, Tim
is better able to pursue new growth opportunities.

Brand
new in 2004, D’s Bed and Breakfast, owned and operated by Chuck Pearson, is
located near the picturesque banks of the San Juan River in Navajo Dam, New
Mexico.
Faced with the challenge of completing the building construction and getting
inspection approvals, putting the final decorating touches on the rooms, and
trying to figure out how to get the word out to travelers in a very short
amount of time, Chuck came to Cornerstone for help.
Cornerstone researched the competition in the local lodging market and
analyzed the potential for the New Mexico travel market. Then we designed
the marketing strategy and communications plan to launch and advertise D’s
upscale accommodations.
Now, Chuck is equipped with a great looking logo, business cards, a rack
card that describes the B&B, a web site designed, published and maintained
by Cornerstone and a marketing plan designed to entice visitors to come
enjoy the comfortable atmosphere and explore the wide range of outdoor
adventures at D’s.
For further information contact D’s host at 505.632.0044 or visit D’s

San Juan Reproduction is both an old and a young
company. Serving the high-quality printing needs of the Four Corners
since the 1950's, San Juan Reproduction is also a young company as a result
of its recent dramatic growth through the acquisition of several smaller
Farmington-area printing companies. Working with owner Michael
Kelley, Cornerstone is helping the company successfully
integrate its acquisitions by reinforcing existing operational procedures or
creating new ones that are better suited to the business' much larger scale.
In the fiercely price competitive printing business, operational excellence
is directly correlated to profit margin and Cornerstone is pleased to be
serving San Juan Reproduction in helping bring the full profit potential of
their recent investments to the bottom line. For
