ZDNet.com
(One of the most comprehensive and helpful computer and digital camera
sites going. This will take a while to plumb and will be the one to
bookmark if you bookmark no others.
Speakeasy.net Speed Test
(This web site allows you to check download and upload
speeds throughout a variety of North American locations. It also
displays your IP Address should you ever need to reference it for
configuration purposes.)
Testmy.net
(This simple web-based utility will allow you to test the
download and upload speed of your Internet connection. This tool
is a real help before you embark on any download of size. Remember
also that your speed will vary widely throughout the day. Once on the
page, select SmarTest™ to have the service select the right test for
you.)
FlashGet
(FlashGet is a freebie download utility whose default setting
downloads as many as 10 files simultaneously and resumes the download if
it's disrupted midstream by, say, a browser or PC crash. This kind of tool
is a must if you are downloading a very large file (say a printer driver)
and you don't want it corrupted or broken.)
Dafont
(This website offers hundreds of free fonts for downloading.
What is most helpful is the ability to type in a word and see what the word
looks like in the font before going to the trouble of downloading,
installing and then trying out the font.)
